After the success of I Am Bear, the collaborative duo, Ben Bailey Smith and Sav Akyuz, have done it again, bringing back Bear in rhyming style in this hilariously vibrant page turner, Bear Moves. A picture book aimed at three years and over, this is a funny take on dancing as he frustrates the animals around him with his retro moves and intriguing dress.
With funny word play and bold imagery, actor Ben Bailey Smith and artist Sav Akyuz have created a Bear you’re not likely to forget. A retro take on dancing with him doing dances such as a foxtrot and the tango, getting his bunny friend to hit the tape player, this will no doubt amuse the toddlers as they too attempt a spot of waltzing, break dancing and belly dancing. With an outfit, which gets a mention at the beginning of the book, certainly a conversation-starter, there is much fun to find in this dynamic picture book. And when the music starts up, Bear just can’t help grooving to the beat – it seems to come to him naturally, advocating the physical moves to young ones, giving them the understanding that dancing can add to one’s happiness.
This infectiously rhythmic and hilariously funny sequel to I Am Bear will keep readers in stitches from start to finish. A bold book, in terms of style and content, Bear Moves will inspire young and old to get their dancing clothes out the wardrobe, hit play on their music and get those bodies moving, and if a book can inspire that, there is little room for criticism. We are certainly given more reason to adore Bear with this follow-up to I Am Bear. Get reading and get dancing.
