Niko has released You Used to Have Her from their upcoming all-new LP Electric Union, set for release on ATIC Records this autumn. It will be preceded by two singles (You Used to Have Her and The Palace Discotheque) and succeeded by a 5-track remix EP in the new year. With all of this activity, Niko has clearly been very busy but had time to speak with The Fountain about all of her new music.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to You Used to Have Her?
It’s been fantastic! I’ve had great reviews and feedback from press but also music lovers and people I know and respect have said they’ve had it on repeat. It’s nice and kind of a relief that people are digging the song as you never really know how new work will be received until it’s out in the wild. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the full album.
TF: And can you sum up the track in one sentence?
My friend Jamie called it “unabashed sunshine pop… a bleepy breakbeat banger!” which I thought summed it up perfectly so let’s go with that.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year?
The next single The Palace Discotheque comes out September 24th and I’m putting the finishing touches on the video at the moment. The full album Electric Union comes out on October 22nd and I’m mad busy getting everything ready for that… Once it’s out I’ll probably treat myself to a spa day. It’s been a busy year!
TF: When can we next expect a live show from you now that venues and gigs are kicking off again?
Thank goodness live music and clubs seem to be coming back. I’ was booked for a couple of festivals that were postponed due the changing nature of the past couple of years so hopefully those will go ahead soon. I honestly can’t wait to get out in front of real people again. I miss the underground club nights I used to sing at and hope to get some PA appearances booked in the coming months, might even dust off my keytar!
