Mancunian post-punk outfit LUCIGENIC are back with new single, Still Breathing, which is out now. Considered a mix of The Velvet Underground, Blondie and Mazzy Star, with hints of Patti Smith at their untameable best, Lucigenic own a compelling sound both classic and dynamic. Lucy Davies from the band spoke with The Fountain about the new music as well as plans to play live in the forthcoming future.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Still Breathing?
Reaction so far to Still Breathing has been really great. The first review from Travellers Tunes was overwhelming, with comparisons to some of my idols, such as Patti Smith. They said the energy of the track gave them an ‘absolute rush’ and genuinely loved it . It was also a big hit at our first unlocked gig three weeks ago in Manchester; the audience asked specifically for a second play of it as the encore, always a good sign!
TF: And can you sum up the track in one sentence?
Rush of glam/ psychedelic tinged energy with vocals compared to Patti Smith in a jam with Debbie Harry, it draws on the fake hero worship through social media.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year?
More live gigs … next 22nd Oct, the After Party of Peter Hook & the Light at Macclesfield Festival . There will also be the release of our 10 inch vinyl EP later this year.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
The Snug , Atherton , Manchester. Night & Day, Manchester on the 13th Jan 22 for the next gig.
