Ex-Yell! vocalist and actor Daniel James is back with another self-penned release entitled Don’t Want To Lose That Girl. The single, an uplifting summery track, celebrates good times and happiness and is the follow up to Set Your Spirit Free a song about coming out of lockdown. Daniel spoke with The Fountain about the response to the new music as well as his busy plans for the remainder of the year.

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Don’t Want To Lose That Girl?

I’m really chuffed as the response has been very positive. Its an up-tempo track and very summery. People keep telling me they have been having a shimmy round the kitchen to it…One lady said she had it on the radio in the shower and was doing a bit of soapy shimmy to it……It’s either that or people tell me it makes them feel like they’re driving along the seafront on a lovely sunny day.

TF: And can you sum up the track in one sentence?

A happy summery track that lifts your spirits.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year?

Quite a bit actually…Continuing to promote Don’t Want To Lose That Girl, finishing off writing an edgy pop track for a Kpop Girl Group, releasing a dance pop duet version of the old Minnie Ripperton hit Loving You with a great girl pal Melissa Whitehouse…Although we have added a few bits and bobs and its now titled Lovin You and subtitled Makes You Feel So Good..I even do a bit of chat in it…er No not a rap! Possibly releasing a winter track…wrapped in a woolly scarf…ho ho ho !

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

There isn’t anywhere I don’t enjoy playing live. From Stadiums in Barcelona to a camp site entertaining scouts in Marquees in Cornwall to playing basement clubs at 2am in the morning… They’re all great in there own way….I’ve just played a great charity gig in Norfolk in a garden, which was intimate and fun…I am hoping to hop on board some winter gigs. There’s nothing like interacting with a live audience and having them sing lines of your song back to you. I am open to offers….
