Bristol based singer-songwriter Gavin Thorpe is back with brand new single Rise Above, which was released on 16th July 2021 via Distiller Records. The follow up to Gavin’s Talk Club EP, which featured the Radio 2 play-listed From Now On, Rise Above is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming Rewind project, an album featuring twelve tracks, spanning over twenty years and collecting together re-recorded tracks from Gavin’s five albums. Gavin spoke with The Fountain about the new music and divulged the date of the album release.

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Rise Above?

The reception to Rise Above has been amazing. The comments on my socials from people saying they can’t stop listening to the track. People have also been asking for the chords so they can cover it.

TF: And can you sum up the track in one sentence?

The best way to sum up the track in one sentence is the main chorus line…Rise above it all…It’s an uplifting song about hope and never giving up and with the help of others we can rise above it all.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year?

The remainder of the year I am going to try and avoid Covid and hope family and friends all remain healthy first and foremost. I am looking forward to releasing the album out on the 17th September but first we have a few more singles to share.

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

My favourite venue is The Louisiana in Bristol because it’s the first gig I ever played twenty plus years ago when starting at and also Giannio the owner does the best meatballs you will ever taste. We are hoping to sort a gig there for the album launch and hopefully the meatballs will be back on the menu.
