Broken Fires have returned with a new EP New Friends. Out on 2nd July via Phwoar & Peace records, it is the band’s first extended-length release in over 5 years. With this and the new single out, The Fountain decided to catch up with Tom from the band about their new music and plans surrounding it.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to New Friends?
Ah it’s been really great and has shocked us to be honest! We’ve been away for a little while so all the love shown for the single has given us a boost.
TF: And can you sum up the track in one sentence?
Twinkly semi-depressing beach pop combining the minimum number of chords humanely possible (C and F major obvs) with intellectual lead guitar lines.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year?
Excitingly for us this is just the start. Our EP is out now but we have an album ready to go and scheduled for release on Phwoar and Peace records this autumn. The plan is to get out and play as much as possible later this year. We can’t wait.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
Our favourite venue is Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff. Playing there never gets old. The sound is amazing, the people are great. Start the night in Spoons, finish in chip alley. Perfect.
