Back in the old world at the start of 2020, our psychedelic punk heroes The Lovely Eggs were primed to release their new album I Am Moron. Then, of course, the pandemic happened. The Lovely Eggs pushed ahead, and the album came out to critical-acclaim and indie chart-topping status, but their plans to tour it far and wide were obviously scuppered. At first, their UK tour was rescheduled to just two months later, thinking there’s no way the pandemic could last more than a few weeks….now they have new single out with I, Moron, collaborating with none other than Iggy Pop. The band spoke with The Fountain about working with Iggy as well as venues they cannot wait to start performing in.

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to I, Moron?

It’s hard to tell yet cos it’s not out till July 9 so people have only heard it a few times on the radio. The 7” pre-order did sell out within a few hours on our website though so that’s probably quite a good reaction.

TF: What was it like to work with Iggy Pop on this single?

Well it was great that he agreed to work on a track with two d**kheads like us! Unbelievable actually.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?

Well hopefully we can get out and do some live gigs in July. That’s the plan anyway, then in the autumn we’re gunna start writing and recording a new album and also got a few others bits up our sleeve.

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

Aw s**t there are SO many. Over the years we’ve played so many great venues and worked with so many amazing promoters. I guess one of our favourite has got to be The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds. There’s nowhere else like it really, not just in terms of the venue, but also the ethos and the vibe. A pure DIY independent venue run by great people for all the right reasons.
