Known for his soulful voice and insightful lyrics, Manchester based singer-songwriter Kirk McElhinney‘s music combines a rich and vibrant mosaic of acoustic guitar picking that gives him a sound that is both unique and enticing. With new track, Ticking Clock, out from the new album, The Fountain caught up with Kirk to discuss new music, plans and live gigs.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Ticking Clock?
The reception has been amazing, so many positive comments. I think a lot of people are feeling uplifted by the message, we all need a bit of uplift right now and it’s something you can shake your bootie too!
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
I can do better than one sentence, how about one word… immense!
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?
I’ve got my new album coming out in the Summer, You Are Not Your Past and I’m itching to get back to playing live, because that’s where it’s at for me. I’ve had enough of sitting on my arse watching Netflix…
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
Most venues in Manchester especially Band on the Wall, but it doesn’t really matter where it is as long as the crowd is on board and the vibe’s right, let’s do it! The next place I look forward to gigging is a festival with a proper crowd again, open the cage!!!!
