Fife musician Cameron Barnes has brought fans an unforgettable pop country anthem with the release of his new single Old Friend, which came out on Friday 4 June. The track travelled from Cameron’s hometown of Methil, to Glasgow, onto Nashville and then home again during its creation. The result is a rousing pop-rock song that marries a healthy dose of Tennessee charm with undeniable Scottish heart. Cameron spoke with The Fountain about it, as well as his desire to perform at the Barras.
TF: You have a new single out, what can we expect from Old Friend?
For the last year or so I have fell in love with country music and been lucky enough to build a pretty cool country music/American fan base on TikTok! The track has a lot of truth and heart so I’m hoping people can connect/take something from the track.
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
Country pop with a side of Scottish heart!
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?
I have shows in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow for the end of the year so the focus will be on them! I can’t wait to play live/see everyone again.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
My favourite venue is the Barras! I was lucky enough to play there with Tom Walker a few years back! My goal is to headline it in the future.
