Pop-soul Sidewalk Records recording artist Wyn Starks’ voice is like hitting rewind. With his release of Circles Starks takes listeners back to those sepia-tinged days of soulful rhythm and blues and brings a certain class and vintage sensibility, along with the sensual and romantic. Effortlessly cool, Starks takes cues from Stevie Wonder, Prince, Leon Bridges and more, as he wraps his falsetto around a timeless melody. The Fountain caught up with Wyn about Circles and further plans.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Circles?
The reception to Circles has been incredible. I’ve been getting so much love from people all over the world about how much they love the song.
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
I always say Circles is one of those songs I wish I wrote but actually did!
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?
Well I hope once everything starts opening up I can get out and start touring. Before Covid hit I was just starting to travel and perform live. So I really miss that. When I’m on stage it feels like home. I really want to visit the UK and collaborate with some artists there.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
I love singing at The Analog here in Nashville. It’s actually where I did my live sessions for my YouTube Channel, so I look forward to performing there again. I would also love to perform at First Avenue in my hometown Minneapolis. A lot of greats have performed there so that would be really cool especially since I haven’t done a show in my city yet so I’m really looking forward to it.
