The Shan are a three-piece punk/garage band from Edinburgh well and truly cemented in the DIY ethos. They recently dropped new EP X-Flies on the 19th of March. They wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered the EP themselves as well as come up with the concept for the artwork. The band spoke with The Fountain about their release as well as future plans for the year.

TF: You have a new EP out, what has the reception been like to X-Flies?

It’s been really cool! we have had reviews coming in from across Europe and the UK that have been really positive and it’s been played as far and wide as the US, Australia, Canada and Nigeria which is just totally mind blowing to us.

TF: How would you sum up the record in one sentence?

An atomic blast of dirty energetic DIY rock n roll!

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?

We still have a lot of gigs planned in for the rest of the year and into the next, We have been invited to go to England a few times over the coming months including a couple gigs in London Supporting 999 and then a festival slot supporting Slaughter and The Dogs which will be awesome. Hopefully the pandemic lifts and we can get back out there, we are dying to just get going again. We have an excellent Halloween show planned at the Wee Red Bar in Edinburgh so it would be cool to have another release out for then, We have the songs for it so just need to get cracking really.

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

That’s a tough one as we have our favourites in every city! I would say Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh, Nice n Sleazy in Glasgow and The Dublin Castle in Camden….Honestly right now I would play a gig in your gran’s front room if I could! We have a rescheduled Glasgow gig at Ivory Black’s supporting The Meteors I am really excited about that one.
