Ex-Yell! vocalist and actor Daniel James is back with a self-penned single Set Your Spirit Free, a song filled with emotions about coming out of lockdown that sends a message of hope that come June 21st we will be free to live fully again. Daniel was signed by Simon Cowell in his pre-BGT days to his label Fanfare alongside his chart-topping label mate Sinitta…  The duo Yell! launched with a cover suggested by the group, Instant Replay originally by Dan Hartman, coincidently Simon had homed in on this song from his Guinness Book Of Hit Singles (his bible) that he kept under his bed! With the new music The Fountain caught up with Daniel on the what more we can look forward to from him.

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Set Your Spirit Free?

Wonderful. Very positive.

TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?

An uplifting song about our emotions during lockdown and our hope for coming out of lockdown on June 21st

TF: I’m sure you get asked this all the time, but how was it to learn from Simon Cowell?

Simon was a master of promotion. His ideas were unusual at the time but have been adopted by many since.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?

I will be promoting Set Your Spirit Free till after we finally come out of lockdown on June 21st and onwards.

I have been asked to take part in several gigs and roadshows around the country promoting the track. If they happen then that will be very exciting. As the response to Set Your Spirit Free has been so positive I am looking to release a new song Do You Remember Me? in August.

It’s a very summery track. People who have heard the track have said it is makes them feel like they are driving along a sunny beach with the roof down on the car .

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

Any outdoor stage in the summer will be a thrill this year! I hope to play lots of summer roadshows. I can’t wait to hear the audience singing along to Set your Spirit Free and swaying to the summer vibes of Do You Remember Me?
