Alex Thom has been preparing to release her debut single, Wise Woman. The Electro Pop singer and producer is emerging onto the Scottish music scene with this energetic and heartfelt track. Alex has already established herself in the electronic music scene after featuring in tracks by Berta Kennedy and Tom Nash. Wise Woman has also been featured in BBC Radio Scotland’s Introducing playlist. With much to note, The Fountain caught up with Alex to discuss Wise Woman and further plans.

TF: You have a new single out, what can we expect from Wise Woman?

My aim for Wise Woman was to create an upbeat and danceable track. I wanted to create an atmosphere which leaves the listener feeling captivated by the catchy hooks and groovy rhythms. Expect a slow build before an explosion into spacey drum beats and bright, driving synthesisers that hit in the chorus. I always hope my musical influences come through within my music. In this case, Elderbrook was a huge inspiration for me when considering the warm build and I expect listeners will be able to notice the instrumental similarities.

TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?

Carefree, unapologetic and personal.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?

I can’t wait to make more music! My plan is to continue releasing tracks that one-up each other every time. I am so excited to share more of my personal thoughts with my audience and to get more catchy hooks stuck in their heads!

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

One of the first venues I played in Edinburgh was Sneaky Pete’s. I think it would be a nice little tribute to myself to finally play the music that I have always wanted to play in front of an audience.

Wise Woman is out on 14th May 2021
