Voodoo Bloo is a powerful alternative-rock act with their first UK single out. Her Name Was Human was released on 26th February via PlasticGroove Records. The track has been worked on by Gregory Haver (Manic Street Preachers/ Super Furry Animals/Bullet for My Valentine) as mix production adviser. Rory McDonald AKA Voodoo Bloo spoke with The Fountain about the new track as well as plans for the year.
TF: You have a new single out, what can we expect from Her Name Was Human?
Well, I’m not even really sure myself to be honest, Human‘s got a lot of different influences and I’d have no idea how to label it myself, but if you like Neutral Milk Hotel or Thee Oh Sees, I think you might enjoy this one.
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
The chaotically manifesting idea that you aren’t good enough for your loved ones.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?
Oh boy this is a loaded question, but right now we’re getting ready to drop some new content that I’m super excited about releasing, as well some secret stuff I can’t talk about just yet. All you need to know right now is that 2021 is gonna be a big year for us, not in terms of success or songwriting, but in telling our story and letting you guys follow along with us.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
Well that’s gotta be Meow. We just released a live video from there very recently, as that’s where IDLES played when they came to Wellington, and since one of their songs was in the setlist we felt it was a must to get a proper recording of it! The sound and atmosphere is just great too, and I hope to be back there real soon. We do have a show coming up in the Darkroom, which is out of town, but we’ve played there before and we will be meeting uni friends that we haven’t seen in a while, so I’m stoked for that one.
