Futuristic French duo Turfu released a brand new single Astrale Nouba featuring the vocals of award-winning Scottish folk artist Kate Young on 29th January via Airfono. The track is a traditional Bulgarian song that mixes techno pop with the vocal imagery of a cocktail- sipping sorceresses and is taken from their forthcoming debut album of the same name. The track is the follow up to their debut EP, which was out in 2019. They spoke with The Fountain about the new single as well as their plans for the year.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Astrale Nouba?
Excellent! The mix of the traditional Bulgarian song Jeni Me Mamo, Kate’s voice, and our electronic madness work wonderfully. wW just released the video for this track and people are all very enthusiastic about the mix of witchcraft, Bulgarian voices, mountains, llamas, and voguing.
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
Traditional Bulgarian song, mixing techno-pop and witches voices under cocktails.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?
Make new music videos because our artistic identity is strongly linked to visual performances. Shoot a live session because this is the only place where we can exist right now. Continue to work on our live AV with the artist Kaspar on interactive video. Compose new songs and try to do concerts (but maybe it’s a dream).
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
We did a lot of concerts, it’s not an easy question but I can do a top 6:
– Festival of Veilles Charrues in France
– Festival Dranouter in Belgium
– Festival Croisements in China
– Allen Valleys Folk Festival in England
– Kontakt – Das Kulturfestival in Germany
We would love to play at the Great Escape festival in England. The programming is excellent and we love the English audience very much, who always welcome us with a lot of love.
