Furrowed Brow have recently dropped their 2-track single. A-side Punctual Punk is a curious parable about a rendez-vous with a tardy reprobate who, for once, fails to be late… although you may encounter the absurdity of existence along the way. The 70s-glam B-side The Narrative of Hugh Gordon Pym, breathes new life into Edgar Allen Poe through the prism of coronavirus and BBC Lunchtime News. The band spoke with The Fountain about the music as well as the rest of their plans for the year.

TF: You have a new single out, what can we expect from Punctual Punk?

With the new single and B-side you’ve got the two opposite sides of a Furrowed Brow coin: Punctual Punk is like falling through a Doctor Who-esque wormhole (very quickly), and The Narrative of Hugh Gordon Pym is a shimmering mashup of a highlights reel of 2020 and The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket by Edgar Allen Poe.

TF: How would you sum up the lead track in one sentence?

A sub-two-minute snippet of swirling synths, dark guitars and nonchalant lyrics intertwined with Sisyphean musings about a friend showing up on time for once.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?

It would be good to get these two lockdown-born tracks out into the physical world, giving them a new dimension for both us and the listeners to experience. Playing gigs again is the main goal but that is of course dependent on everything going to plan in the UK. Expect an extra large helping of glam and mischief if you can come to see us live at some point.

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

It’s got to be the Peer Hat in Manchester’s Northern Quarter – probably our most frequently played venue, it’s a favourite place to drink and party with other regulars, plus we used to rehearse in a room directly above the bar so it feels a bit like our birthplace. The next place we look forward to playing at is Big Hands bar, a new one for us, on the 30th of July; it’s going to be the first one for a long time which makes it all the more exciting.
