Singer/ songwriter/ eternal optimist/ hopeful romantic are all the things rising pop star Corrina Taylor embodies and more. Her songs vary from the light-hearted and playful, to the emotional and deep; as she freely admits, “I write pop songs that are jigsaw puzzles of my own life and emotions”. Her lyrics are always honest and real in the hope that people will be able to relate and better understand their own hearts. Her latest single is the honest but good humoured Blue Card, a song about becoming a ‘mainstream addict,’ in this case, a shopaholic to mask the anxieties in life. Corrina spoke with The Fountain about the single as well as further plans for the year – shopping?!

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Blue Card?

The song has been received so well! I did not expect to have such an amazing reaction at all! So many people have reached out to say they can relate from all over the world! It’s a relief to know I’m not the only one!

TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?

A light-hearted and comical pop song about addiction that subtly gives the listener an opportunity to identify as an everyday addict, without being judged and feel a sense of connection knowing they’re not alone. (OK that was a very long sentence!)

TF: You mention that it was inspired by Russell Brand, can you elaborate?

Russell Brand wrote Recovery to show the ‘every day’ addict that they could overcome their addictions to things like sugar, TV, phones, external validation etc… I was so inspired by his journey, his recovery and his advice, and I identify with so many of the addictive behaviours he talks about in the book: Shopping being one of them! So I used this as inspiration for the song and many other songs that are yet to be released. I hope a lot of people will be able to relate. I think Russell Brand is an incredible person and inspiration for the world.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?

I am currently working very hard on my next release! I have many songs I want to release this year! It’s going to be a very interesting year!!

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

This is something I have not done a lot of yet! As soon as I’m allowed to gig, it’ll be the first thing I look into doing.
