Originally from the Highland capital Inverness, James Mackenzie kickstarted 2021 as Single of the Week for his sweet boy/girl duet Champion on The Afternoon Show on BBC Radio Scotland. With new track Where Are You Going? out James spoke with The Fountain about plans for the year and his favourite venue.

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Where Are You Going?

It’s really early days as it’s just out – but people are loving the video/song combo and it’s nice to see it getting shared on playlists all around the world.

TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?

A song about taking a new direction in life but not forgetting where you come from.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?

I’m already writing more songs and I have my album out on 4 June 2021.

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

Ironworks in Inverness, without a doubt. Right now, anywhere is good for me! I just wanna see some fans again.
