Back in November 2020 Gianna Lauren released new single, Closed Chapter, as well as new EP Vanity Metrics, a deeply felt and dreamy set of songs recorded live in the studio. Consider for fans of Lucy Dacus and Big Thief, there is much to relish from Lauren’s work right now, and thus, The Fountain caught up with her to discuss the music as well as foreseeable plans.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Closed Chapter?
Releasing new music feels like the only normal thing that’s happened to me this year, but on top of that, the reception has been truly remarkable and I really appreciate everyone who has been spinning, sharing and acknowledging the songs.
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
Closed Chapter is an erupting volcano in a grade 6 science project.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?
I am cosying up by the fire and laying low for the foreseeable future. Might paint the lavender room melon.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
That’s tough! I have so many favourites. A couple of my faves just shut down, sadly, because it would have been too tough to endure this pandemic, and I imagine that’s happening to a lot of venues across the globe. As a result I have no expectations for what the scene will be like on the other side, but I hope to return to The Burdock in Toronto, a small intimate venue with great people and sound.
