Matty James Cassidy releases new single Old Souls, from his well-received debut solo album of the same name. The track is a darkly poetic rock ‘n’ roll outing, reflected in the Peaky Blinders vibes of the video. Matty spoke with The Fountain about the track, the album and his wish for all venues to weather the Covid storm.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like?
It’s been great so far. It’s the title track from my new album Old Souls, which seems to be going down well. It’s such a strange time, I think people need music now more than ever and I hope it serves as a welcome distraction for a few people.
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
Of all the songs I’ve ever released, this is certainly the latest one.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?
I’ve made a lot of music this year already, but I still have a few tricks up my sleeve for the rest of 2020. It’s a shame we can’t be out gigging, but I’m happy enough locked away writing so I’ll just crack on with that for now.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
I like playing anywhere there’s some good people up for a singalong. With so many great spots it’s hard to pick one. I’ve played some real dives too but sometimes they’re even better. I hope they all weather this storm. When the time is right, I look forward to playing the new songs up and down the country and beyond.
