HM Johnsen is an experimental Indie/Rock Artist from Norway, singer-songwriter who embraces many styles whilst still managing to stay true to himself and his musical and lyrical vision. He recently released his latest single Stay Within Range the second track to be taken from his forthcoming EP, Serenity, which also came out earlier this month.

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Stay Within Range?

It’s been very, very good actually! Thanks for asking! Stay Within Range is no doubt the most commercial song from the EP, and I was hoping that this track would make some amount of “noise”, and it sure did. I`ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from people all over the world, especially from South America. All in all very good feedback!

I have gotten messages and calls from old classmates, and people I didn’t know were into music at all…. and that’s usually a very good sign.

TF: How would you sum it up in one sentence?

An overwhelmingly warm response.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release?

My next big thing is I released my EP this month. Stay Within Range is one of five songs coming up on the EP! The record is kind of a concept album, and all the tunes, vibes, sound and lyrics are all carefully connected into one story. At the same time I will be making a “Cult Film” Together with my band and sound guy and camera crew and actors. We are making an ‘alternative’ release show, due to Covid-19.

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

My favourite venue for playing live must be a small place in Norway called Sjøboden Live. I have played in big arenas and in tiny pubs, but this small cosy place in the South of Norway is just magical. The crowd has always been overwhelming and the arranger has always stood up 100% for me and the band. The vibe of the place goes hand in hand with the sound quality of the gear and room. I LOVE PLAYING THERE!

Well…. we were supposed to play some gigs in the UK, but sadly all is cancelled due to Covid-19. I was really looking forward to that!.  I guess one of my goals is to go back to Germany and play there again, and to be able to play in the UK again as well 🙂
