The debut release from the new Scottish electronic pop duo Fiona Liddell and Niall Rae, Gefahrgeist, Graceless has been recently dropped. Comprising of two of Scotland’s most promising young musicians, there is much promise for the band, who spoke with The Fountain about the track and the venues they miss.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Graceless?
The reception has been overwhelming! It’s really gratifying to hear that so many people have listened to the track and enjoyed it. We spent two years working on it, often questioning whether or not it was something people were going to like, so the positive reaction has made it all worthwhile. There’s a bit of debate on the genre of the track; we’ve had Rn’B, Neo Soul, Ambient Pop, Electronica… I think the one thing we can agree on is that it’s a song which carries elements of many different musical influences!
TF: How would you sum up the single in one sentence?
An ethereal and groovy dream with about 30,000 vocal harmonies!
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?
Our second single, Nukular, is due to be released in January of 2021. We plan to release a couple more singles before dropping a full album next summer!
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
Before the pandemic, we used to gig regularly at some great Edinburgh venues like Brewhemia, Stramash and Sneaky Pete’s. For our first live gig, our dream venue would be The Caves in Edinburgh. It’s a venue built into the old vaults of the city dating back to the 18th century. We’ve performed and seen bands there loads of times before and it’s always a fantastic night.
