Birmingham’s The VCR have just dropped new single Wonderland, which was recorded with producer Gavin Monaghan (Wolf Alice, The Blinders, The Sherlocks & many more). Wonderland is about the ways people with mental health issues and anxiety cope in the face of the tragedy and conflict that is fed to them by the media. The band spoke with The Fountain about the new track and plans for the remainder of the year.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Wonderland?
It’s been really cool. We’ve had loads of great feedback about the tune and it’s good to see new people giving our music a listen.
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
I guess I’d say it’s a proper Rock anthem.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release?
We’ve got another single due for release 30th October which has been described as a ‘bop’ – which is feedback we’ve always dreamed of receiving. We’re looking forward to getting that one out there. We’re also looking forward to doing the closest thing to gigs that we’re allowed to.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
I’d say the favourite venue is probably Hare n Hounds in Kings Heath. It’s got a banging sound and good beer. It’s also the first venue we played as a band so we’ve got a bit of history there. We’re playing an open-air gig at Dead Wax in Digbeth on 28th November which is gonna be really cool. It might almost feel like a festival with the sky above us and we couldn’t be more ready to play some live music. It’s gonna be a big one.
