Tom Welsh has released not one but two brand new tunes, making his debut with two indie/ folk inspired tunes that are both provocative and easy listening in equal measure. Time Runs Away With You and Everything That Might Be are new for Chorley-based Tom, who has been writing and performing songs for the last ten years. He has recently started working with Manchester based producer Kevin Foy and together they have crafted this double debut. Tom spoke with The Fountain about the tracks and his plans for the year.
TF: You have two new singles out, what has the reception been like to Everything That Might Be/Time Runs Away With You?
Really good so far, and it’s been interesting to see which tune that people mention as the stand-out between the two, because it’s pretty even. Time Runs Away With You seems to be more radio-friendly, but Everything That Might Be has been the one people have messaged me about the most. The live acoustic ones have brought some more interest too, so I’m glad we did them even though it was just an afterthought.
TF: How would you sum them up in one sentence?
An honest representation of me at the time of writing and recording.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after these single releases?
I’ll be putting another single out early next month, and then will hopefully release something each month for the next year. I have a back catalogue to work through and there’s always new stuff, and hopefully some gigs when it’s possible.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
I’ve only really played as part of other bands at some of my favourite venues, so anywhere seems new to me doing the solo stuff. I’m just hoping to be able to travel when possible and see some new places and play to like-minded people.
