Lyn Koonce, folk singer/songwriter has just released her full-length album, Begin Again, releases August 28th, 2020 with a music video to follow; upon rerouting after a 17-year relationship, this album serves as a roadmap for real life. “A huge part of this album is finding the truth of who I am and what I settled for,” Koonce shares. “When I started to believe in who I am as an artist & as a person, that’s when it became clear.” Lyn spoke with The Fountain about the LP as well as her desire to play live again.
TF: You have a new album out, what has the reception been like to Begin Again?
It’s been really great! It certainly helps to have a team around you who can help promote it, and the response has been one I dreamed about. People from all walks of life who listen to a variety of music seem to really resonate with the songs. It’s getting played around the country and that makes me very happy.
TF: How would you sum up the LP in one sentence?
Beginnings, endings, and adventures in between. I think that while these songs are fairly personal, they are relatable to just about anyone.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this LP release?
I have an album release show with a full band on September 25 along with a few more shows coming up. I’m hoping I can begin (safely) touring and playing the record live – at least in some locations to small audiences by the end of the year.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
I love most any small theatre and venue. And I also love playing larger house concerts. Being able to connect one on one with audience members inspires me and I appreciate hearing how my songs might move someone. I’m hoping to start playing some outdoor gigs this fall.
