|Sometimes a band arrives out of nowhere with a fully formed sound ready to fill a vast concert hall. King Hannah are one of those bands. The Liverpool-based band led by the creative force of Hannah Merrick and Craig Whittle have signed to City Slang, and have released first single and accompanying video, Crème Brûlée. The pair spoke with The Fountain about the debut track as well as their remaining plans for 2020.|
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Crème Brûlée?
Hannah: Completely overwhelming! People have been in touch from all over the world telling us how much they love the track, and hope that we tour their country one day, it’s crazy and we’re so grateful for all the support. We just want to keep pushing ourselves and get better and better, it’s the best feeling and we don’t want it to stop.
TF: What was it like to work on the video?
Craig: We thought about getting a professional videographer to shoot it but decided to do it all ourselves. I’ve always loved films and always wanted to try film making so this was the perfect opportunity. I loved the whole process, from shooting it to editing it and seeing how you can piece together a story from different images. I think it works really well as an accompaniment to Creme Brulee; it’s grainy and homemade and we did it all ourselves, just like how we record our music.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release?
Hannah – There’s more music to come! We’ve just found a brand new rehearsal space too, so we’re looking forward to cracking on in there!
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
Hannah – honestly, I don’t think we’ve found it yet! But it’s exciting to think that that’s in the future for us! A long time ago, years before King Hannah, I played the Deaf Institute in Manchester, that was a great venue. I personally hope to play Paris one day, we saw Courtney Barnett play Casino De Paris, that was pretty cool! Craig’s hoping to play Germany, probably for all the weiss beer!
