Gerry Loves Records has released the Still, Again EP by Jane Blanchard, which is available digitally and on limited edition 12” vinyl. They originally intended to release this a little earlier this year with launch shows at Flourish Festival in New Brunswick and the mighty Leith Depot in Edinburgh…..obviously that was not meant to be. With this in mind, Jane spoke with The Fountain about the new EP and her desire to be on a stage gigging.
TF: You have a new EP out, what has the reception been like to Still, Again?
The reception has been great so far! This is my first release since moving to Scotland a few years ago, and I am so lucky to be working with Gerry Loves Records on this release. The reviews that we have seen come through so far have been thoughtful and representative of how we wanted our release to be received. It’s great that people are listening, and liking what they hear.
TF: How would you sum it up in one sentence?
EP: Sounds like: Pent up feelings, late summer nights, going to therapy for the first time.
Single: Sounds like: It’s 1995, sitting in your bedroom, playing over your last diary entry.
TF: Who do you look to and idolise when it comes to influences with this record?
We were working with a lot of new influences this time around. We were exploring the idea of a duo, and how different a duo can sound dependent on the type of music and the performers. We really tried to push our boundaries with temp and noise on this EP, and trying to explore our sound. We’re really heavily influenced by a lot of local bands (from my hometown of Fredericton, New Brunswick) that shaped us when we started going to local shows. Bands and artists like Motherhood, The Slate Pacific, LAPS, Cedric Noel.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release?
With COVID-19 restrictions, gigging has been out of the picture, unfortunately. I’ll continue doing a few live stream gigs here and there, but I’m really excited to get back on stage as soon as it is safe to do so. I’ve been working on some new music and taking some time to be thankful and soak in how amazing it is to have our first physical release available.
