Straight A’s is a prelude to the three singles for Suave Martyrs that are coming out later this year. Musically the song takes from UK Hip Hop and Dub as well as indie and funk, with bands such as Mouse Outfit, Fat Freddys Drop, Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Streets being referenced. Manchester’s Suave Martyrs spoke with The Fountain about the track in more detail.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Straight A’s?
The reaction has been amazing. We haven’t released it as we would normally and have just done the video on our socials and we have more plays on the video than any of our previous tracks with over 10,000 so that has been brilliant to see.
TF: How would you sum it up in one sentence?
Haha well the theme of Straight A’s is fairly obvious to see, and I think we will leave it there…
TF: Who do you look to and idolise when it comes to influences?
The two main focuses of the band when we write are psychedelia and groove, so bands such as Brian Jonestown Masscare, Jefferson Airplane and Pink Floyd are big influences as well as bands like Fat Freddy’s Drop and Earth Wind and Fire.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release?
The plan is to release three more singles and hopefully get back to gigging again. Though if we can’t this year we will be planning a big return in 2021.
