Be My Sunshine is the first release from the hotly tipped Manchester trio, Cold Water Swimmers, in 2020. It was released to stream on the bands own label DIY or DIE on June 22nd and recorded by Simon Archer at 6DB Salford. The band spoke with The Fountain about the track as well as their focus on writing and recording for the rest of the year.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Be My Sunshine?
I think it’s a little early to say and to be honest I to try and not bother myself with what reception a track gets. I write it, we record it, promote it, all of that, our next job is to get people to listen which is incredibly difficult so once we get to the listening to our stuff stage it’s really not down to us it’s with the audience. We hope the reception is good but we know some will like, some won’t, most won’t give a f**k either way… that’s just how it goes!
TF: How would you sum it up in one sentence?
It’s a pop song, a dark one but a pop song none the less.
TF: Who do you look to and idolise when it comes to influences?
The nearest I’ve got to idolising anyone is David Bowie I tend not to idolise artists, take a listen to our song Burn Your Idols for our take on that. Your idols will let you down in the end. FACT. However, influences are huge where to start I could go on for days … The Cure, Bowie, La’s, JAMC, Libertines,… jesus I really could go on for days… but I idolise none of them.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release?
With gigs looking less and less likely I’m writing and we’re planning to record two more tracks to follow on from this current release Be My Sunshine. Plans beyond that at the moment seem a little pointless!
