Fife-based band Sunstinger, made up of members from Sergeant, Armoury and Foreignfox, have recently released their newest single Shimmer. With this and another scheduled for May/June, The Fountain caught up with the band to discuss their plans for 2020 and how they are keen to get back performing.

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Shimmer?

It’s been a great response! The best we’ve had so far. It’s generating a lot of streams and people are really digging it. I think it’s pretty fitting for these strange times so I imagine people can relate to it.

TF: How would you sum it up in one sentence?

A song about the pure freedom of youth. Remembering who you really are when there’s nothing left to worry about.

TF: Who do you look to and idolise when it comes to influences?

We idolise anyone who has a voice and the confidence to speak about what they believe in. Our music is mostly influenced by our lives and the people around us.

Musically we all listen to different artists but we have been inspired to use noise in our music from the likes of fellow Scots The Jesus And Mary Chain and American Bands like Ringo Deathstarr. I think we gave our own sound though, it’s definitely different from what anyone else is doing around here.

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release, can we look forward to an EP, LP?

It’s hard to say in these unpredictable times. We have a few tracks that are ready to be released so there’s plenty of material we can play with. Hopefully if all goes well we will put a new single in May / June. We just can’t wait to get back on the gig scene again after all this is over.
