D R I F T are a Paisley-based electronic duo that merge the folk influences of songwriter Linzi Clark with the electronic styling of producer Andrew Quinn to create ambient-pop beats. The duo have just released new track, Edge of Love and have a couple of gigs forthcoming, so The Fountain caught up with Andrew and Linzi to elaborate.

TF: A new single, how exciting, what has the reception been like so far?

Linzi: We’re really excited about Edge of love, it’s our most dancey track yet and we’ve received such a positive reception so far! It’s also the first single we’ve had a music video for so it feels like a nice progression from our first two releases.

TF: What makes it the Edge of Love, tell me more about the new single?

Linzi: Edge of Love is about the limbo stage between love and logic. It’s that feeling of not being able to ‘let go’ of yourself and wondering if the love you feel for someone is enough, or even real. We wanted to create a track people could relate with as well as dance along to. It’s about exploring the uncertainty of relationships, and trying to discover the realms between the rational and the absurd world of love.

Andrew: Musically, Edge of Love creates a dreamy atmosphere by layering melodies to create a swirling drone. While a massive backseat and big, melodic bassline keeps the track moving and roots it to the dance floor.

TF: And is the first from an EP or am album that we can see the release of later in 2019?

Linzi: We have so many tracks recorded and ready to share! We’re planning to release a few more singles before we think about an album. We’re still a relatively new band and doing everything ourselves, so plan to wait until we have a bit more support behind us before releasing a bigger piece of work. We have so many ideas though that we might just need to DIY!

TF: Will you be promoting the album with a tour at all, will we have the pleasure of seeing you live?

Linzi: We will be hosting our first headline gig at the 13th Note on October 3rd. We’re excited to play our longest set yet and to DJ afterwards, hopefully giving fans the full D R I F T experience. We’re also super excited to be playing Edinburgh for the first time on Tuesday 17th of September at Sneaky Pete’s as part of a co-curated gig by The Skinny and GoldFlakePaint as part of the week-long Edinburgh International Magazine Festival!

TF: What has been your favourite gig to date?

Linzi: We’ve been lucky to play some great gigs in the past year. One that stood out for us was when we supported Paisley’s own The Vegan Leather alongside SWAY at The Bungalow in Paisley. It was packed and so fun to play alongside our friends in our hometown. There’s something so heartwarming about performing in a venue you’ve spent so many nights in throughout your youth and with everyone you love there. It was a really special night.
