Radu Isac started comedy in 2006 in his native Romania, being one of ten professional comedians performing in Romanian. He made several TV appearances as well as playing a comedian in the Romanian feature film Website Story. He also wrote a regular column for the leading satirist magazine Academia Catavencu and was a special guest in the final episode for the stand up comedy X-Factor style show’ Iumor. This year he is coming to Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival and spoke with The Fountain about his new show, Good Excuses For Sociopaths.
TF: Good Excuses For Sociopaths certainly sounds intriguing, what is the premise?
It seems like these days more then ever we only concentrate on one side of every story. I’m trying to explore the bad side of feel good stories and the good side of the horrific.
TF: And what drove the project, where did your influences lie?
I started with the title and wrote the show around it. A lot of my club material would have fitted under it and it seamed like a smart idea. I first heard the word ‘sociopath’ in The Sopranos. I think adult entertainment in general should have mostly anti-heroes. And leave more room for heroes in real life.
TF: What are your plans for the Fringe, having been before are there any tips or musts you would offer to first-time performers?
I’ll be working hard on my show, running The English Speaking Comedy Borsch compilation show, doing spots, seeing shows and hopefully making more eye contact with everyone then ever before. I’d advise any new performers to book a vacation after the Fringe. It’s the best advice that I got and never followed in my first year there. Having been before I’m really looking forward to seeing the sun while up there.
TF: And what are your future plans beyond Good Excuses For Sociopaths?
Writing more and performing in as many parts of the world as possible.
