Astrarot are a Metalcore quartet from Greece, and have just released their debut album We Can’t Win. in 2018 they managed to become the first Metal Band ever to play at the National Greek Opera. The band spoke with The Fountain about the album as well as this memorable performance.

TF: A new album release, how exciting, what can we expect from We Can’t Win?

What you can expect from We Can’t Win is the result of two individuals who’ve known each other and shared the same vision for more than a decade, getting to write music together for the first time. The album is a mixture of modern sounds and fresh ideas combined with an old-school , raw and honest attitude of “I don’t give a f**k”

TF: What can’t you win, this is an interesting title for an LP?

Haha, it’s a very interesting and pessimistic title indeed. You know, when we had finished writing the album we were searching for a title, and we wanted it to be somehow “iconic”, a simple statement that people could just see and understand, connect with. Also, being that pessimistic and nihilistic about life in general is kind of a “cleansing”. We feel like by putting out all our negativity and thoughts, exactly how we feel them, is a great way of also leaving them behind, clearing our head and then moving forward. So when you look it like that, it’s somehow the most positive and optimistic title we could think of.

TF: What has the reception been like to the record?

The truth is that it’s been really positive, which is something that made us beyond happy. Of course, given our history as a band there were a lot of people that were surprised from our new musical direction, but, at the end of the day we make our music for ourselves first. And being honest is the best we can do, Instead of just being what we used to be in the past and not expressing our true selves.

TF: Are you performing in Scotland anytime soon, will we have the pleasure?

We sure hope so! It’s nothing booked yet but we sure will try to do this. We can’t wait to meet the Scottish people, drink some Scottish alcohol and, of course, visiting Mr. Crowley’s house.

TF: What has been your favourite gig to date?

We have had many great live experiences to date, but I think our performance at last year’s Schoolwave Festival was the highlight. Also our performance at the National Greek Opera, given the fact that we were the only rock band that has ever played there.
