Neverlanded have just landed with new EP, Fluffy Unicorns United (F.U.U), which features four new tracks, is being given away for free to anyone that supports charity Mermaids UK. The Fountain caught up with the band about the EP and what inspired them to go down this route for distribution.
TF: A new EP, how exciting, what has the reception been like so far?
The EP is not only new, but it’s also our debut release! The response, so far, from both the general public and those we sent advance copies of our music to has been very positive. We’ve received some great feedback! As well as our fans, a good number of music journalists have shown faith in Neverlanded, through the offer of media coverage and general support, so we’d like to put on record how grateful we are to each one of them for helping us during the launch of F.u.U.
TF: What inspired you to title it Fluffy Unicorns United?
The Unicorn traditionally appears as a symbol of chastity, the divine power that nurtures all living things, and is an emblem of the world of the divine presence. Alice Fisher, a journalist for The Guardian, recently wrote that “In a time of Trump and terror we’ve aligned ourselves with the Unicorn – a symbol of hope” while across Facebook the phrase “I just want to be a fluffy unicorn” has been appearing on walls, statuses etc. The meaning we interpreted from this was that people just want to be happy and free to be themselves.
The system puts terror, despair and anxiety in our homes through our televisions; people are being brainwashed into thinking they need medication to make them stop being different, unique and amazing. So, what if we could all be free, safe and united? What if we could be happy?
TF: And will you be promoting this with a list of exciting tour dates?
Gigs, shows, videos, collaborations… stay tuned! You can get updates about us on our social media FB/Insta/twitter pages @neverlandedband
TF: Where has been your favourite gig to date?
The best gig is the next gig. Our last show was at The Unicorn in Camden. The venue was packed with heads going up and down, loud and proud, their sweaty and smiling faces singing along to our songs. It was amazing! Someone posted on FB: “The unicorns tore the unicorn a new one” <3
TF: And you are coinciding it with a charity donation, why Mermaids UK?
Mermaids UK supports children, young people and their families to achieve a happier life in the face of great adversity. Only if one realises how important their support to them is, will get what Mermaids UK really do. Unicorns have been good friends with Mermaids since forever so it was inevitable that we’d support them with our debut release.
