Zoe Konez, known for her work as songwriter for CATBEAR, has released new single The Sweetest Thing Is Love, her first release since her 2016 EP, Between Darkness and Day.

Zoe spoke with The Fountain about this new release and her favourite gig to date.

TF: A new track, how exciting, what can we expect from that?

The Sweetest Thing Is Love is a song about being loved up and carefree. I wrote it on piano so it has a ballad feel, but then I experimented with production using some interesting sounds to create a warm, lush audio feeling. It’s a romantic, optimistic song and I wanted to make sure I captured that lustful energy whilst creating a multi layered soundscape.

TF: And are you promoting this with a tour, can we expect you in Scotland any time soon?

I’m based in London so I’d love some advice on some great venues to play in Scotland! Send them on and I would love to book a tour and come and visit you. I love being out on tour so fingers crossed I will be heading out again playing outside of London next year.

TF: How do you find working solo in comparison with working in CATBEAR?

CATBEAR is more of a collaborative experience. I tend to immerse myself in my solo music and it comes very much from the heart in a stream of consciousness. CATBEAR makes music for people to dance to and has a band feel where we write together from a collective experience – look out for new music next month!

TF: What has been your favourite gig to date – do you have one?

My favourite gig to play was when I sold out my show at the Green Note in Camden, London. It was to celebrate the single release of Bones, but I also made it the pinnacle of a challenge to write three songs with three friends – Antonio Lulic, Kimberly Anne, and Adrian Roye – and we performed the songs for the first time that night. I got some guest singers and the audience to sing along on the songs from my EP and it felt so much more than just a gig. I love all these shared experiences that making music leads to.
