The Lampoons: A team of four professional fools insistent on creating surreal, absurd and delightfully cheeky theatre. Scavengers of classic cinema, they reimagine forgotten gems using bizarre and eccentric physical clown and this August to Edinburgh they are bringing House on Haunted Hill.

They spoke with The Fountain about what to expect from the show, which is their debut at the Fringe as well as their plans post-Fringe.

TF: You are performing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, how exciting, what can we expect?

This could well be the most ridiculously bizarre show on the fringe. A thumpingly hilarious non-stop Comedy-Horror the likes of which have never been seen before. Plus, you get water pistols, ping pong balls and a Ghost Cat!

TF: House on Haunted Hill sounds intriguing, do you veer away from the original story or are you loyal to the original film?

Everything you see in that very sweaty hour is completely devised from Rob White and William Castles’ original Black and White 1959 Screenplay!

TF: And what drove the project, where did your influences lie?

Alright, so imagine we then threw that classic screenplay into a large blender with some Mighty Boosh, Monty Python, Garth Marenghi and a heavy seasoning of Surreal Clowning! We’re also hugely inspired by our teachers of Clown from Spymonkey – Philippe Gaulier, John Wright.

TF: What are your plans for the Fringe, have you been before?

We’ve only gone and brought you a DEBUT! This is first time The Lampoons will be hitting the Edinburgh Festival! We have lots of friends in London from our Halloween Shows each year, but this will be a new born baby idiot for us to all deliver. Previous B-Movie recreations include ‘ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES’ – I’m sure you all know that one….

TF: And what are your future plans beyond House on Haunted Hill?

Well after this debut fringe festival we will likely want to reach more regional areas with our clowns and also to continue re-imagining a Wonderfully awful B-Movie every Halloween in London.
