After twenty years on our screens the legendary kids presenters and quadruple BAFTA winning comedy duo Dick & Dom, debut at the Edinburgh Festival at the massive Underbelly for twelve nights in August.

Dick & Dom spoke with The Fountain about what we can expect from their show as well as their plans whilst in Edinburgh, including scoffing square sausage.

TF: You are performing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, how exciting?

Very…we’ve always wanted to do it and this is our fringe debut, 22 years late!

TF: The show certainly sounds intriguing, what is the premise?

It’s set up as a boxing match and the two sides of the audience (The Dick’s and The Dom’s) battle it out in a series of anarchic games to see who wins the ultimate prize of….nothing! The show really is for all ages from 5-105 as we have made the show a family event and there is a gag in there for everyone. There’s a game for the Dad’s, Mum’s, the little people, the students and of course there will be a bid dollop of Bogies.

TF: And what drove the project, where did your influences lie?

We’d been wanting to put a live stage show together for a while and had always done the ‘split the audience’ thing so a versus competition made sense. Our influences from the past come from The Pythons, Spike Milligan, Peter Cooke & Dudley Moore and of course Rick and Ade.

TF: What are your plans for the Fringe, having been before are there any tips or musts you would offer to first-time performers?

We’re fringe virgins! When is Scotland wake up with a hearty breakfast of square sausage. As always the festival brings a great atmosphere to the city and there are endless great shows to see – love watching the master Jason Byrne in action, Once seen on Blue Peter (for a trip down memory lane) and the ‘referee’ from our show Glen Davies also has his own show called ‘Gagging’ which is definitely worth a watch.

TF: And what are your future plans beyond The Fringe?

We continue our festival tour for the year and then we’re back into headlining Butlins in October all before Panto and then into 2019 and our 23rd year as a double act – Ouch!
