Juliana Daugherty gave another peek into her debut album Light, which was released on 1st June with Baby Teeth, which is, “essentially a breakup song, only all the intense, post-relationship feelings are subdued by many, many years of distance and perspective… with a sonically bright and shimmery musical landscape — it’s a little like getting the final word in”.
Juliana spoke with The Fountain about the response to Light so far and when we are likely to see her perform.
TF: A new album release, you must be ecstatic?
Definitely. It’s now been more than two years since we first started recording, and I really hadn’t shared the music with many people, so it’s wonderful to finally have it out in the world. I’m really proud of the work I did to make it happen, and at the same time very ready to move on to the next thing.
TF: What type of reception have you had so far to Light?
It’s early yet, but mostly the reception’s been very positive! I’m trying to maintain a “no self-Googling” policy, just in case the negative reviews start rolling in.
TF: Are you going to be promoting this with a tour, are we likely to see you play live soon?
I certainly hope so! I don’t have much booked at the moment, but I’m working on it.
TF: What has been your favourite gig to date?
I haven’t played enough gigs as a solo act to have a clear frontrunner, but I think all the shows I remember most fondly from my time touring with other bands have been house shows, a whole variety of them, in different places. The audiences at house shows are almost always more attentive and appreciative than those at your standard gig, which is a great thing.
