This Wednesday troubadour Josh Okeefe will take to the stage of the Oran Mor to support Lindo Ortega, as he promotes new music including moving track Grenfell Tower Fire. A regular face on the Nashville scene, Josh will step away from his comfort zone, and hit Western Glasgow.
Josh spoke with The Fountain about his favourite gig as a child too young and how he moved to Nashville with the grandiose plans of writing.
TF: You excited about playing Glasgow’s Oran Mor venue on your upcoming tour?
Of course!
TF: What’s been your favourite gig to date?
The first one, was around thirteen i’d say, couple friends came, my clothes smelt like smoke when I got home. Got the kick.
TF: What music did you grow up listening to, formulating your taste and interest in music?
I listened to old country music mostly and some of the music that was made down in Memphis. Anything that was being played in my childhood home was what I listened to.
TF: What inspired you to become a musician initially?
Initially I just liked writing, I never had intentions of ‘becoming’ a musician but naturally like any kid I picked up a guitar and tried to put music to the words I had written.
When I first packed up and moved to Nashville when I was in my teens all I wanted to do is write. I didn’t have big intentions of anything else.
TF: How have people responded to your track Grenfell Tower Fire?
I don’t know, I haven’t really looked at the responses too much.
Josh Okeefe plays in Glasgow’s Oran Mor on Wednesday 6th June, 7pm
